Can I Kill All Proprietry Code With Coreboot?

Post by deja69 »

Just moving a query from Problems,as I already felt I had kidnapped Protocoder's thread

With regards to MBR & GAG,i think Shador was right, maybe more understanding and a lot less assuming is required of me

I also possess a BIOS provided by Phoenix Technologies which I was never happy with even when I had Windows Vista installed.
I realise I possibly need to start totally from the roots up and just flush the system.
Is Coreboot http://www.coreboot.org/ the best place to start or do I need to get even deeper into the box than the BIOS.

Im sorry for asking general questions.
A simple yes or no is sufficient

Just if im going to plant my SalixOS,i would prefer it not to have its roots in toxic landfill ;)

I've never tried Coreboot, but if you want to try it first check if your hardware is supported: http://www.coreboot.org/Supported_Motherboards Oh, and with such stuff it's easy to brick your system

Dude, you gotta hurry. Some super-human being friendly with me told me yesterday that the switch is already going to happen tomorrow. I'm prepared: bunker in my backyard and all stations armed.

On a slightly more serious note, and my reputation in danger of moving to Tin Hat territory.

I guess what i am looking for is transparency, and with proprietry code, commercial interests and licensing it does not give the companies that option.
I wouldnt say trust no-one,and the consequences of doing this are sometimes worse than being totally niave..but possiblities are bad enough when people work in their own interests, but when people are contracted to work in other people interests at the expense of waiving any moral obligation, things get cloudy.

After all,the whining tones of "I was only doing my job" is a much used excuse throughout history, and the slavish dumbness given to heirachies absolves responsibility...there has to be a better way.
Im not totally down on authority, after all,if i gave you total administration for eight billion crazy people and their services what would you come up with?
Seems most choose Mussolini with better public relations.

With regards to technology, some right to self-determination with the awareness that you have some responsibility for caring for others.
FOSS at least,offers a glimpse :)

Edit-PS.Just remembered the other excuse"I cant be bothered to do the job i have" [see Microsoft] :D
