I have a fresh install of Salix Mate 13.37 is great. The problem is that the wireless connection keeps dropping out every 2 to twenty minutes. It is very annoying and had to write this from XP. I have tried to search for it but did not find anything helpfull. The wireless connection in windows is great and seldom drops.
What could I try to resolved this. If you need any other information please let me know and I will post it as soon as I can.
Thanks Kelean.

Re: pro/wireless 2200BG dropping out every 2 to 20 minutes.
All the times that I've worked with that specific wireless card, it worked flawlessly. No idea what could be wrong there, but can you provide more details about your connection? Are you using any encryption? If so, which one? What is the distance from the wireless router? How good is the connection (percentage shown) in salix and windows? Are you sure it's a connection problem, or could it be a dns issue?
Re: pro/wireless 2200BG dropping out every 2 to 20 minutes.
Sorry about the slow reply. I had to reinstall because of errors about my partition scheme. When I installed I used partitions from a Debian install and the errors were something about they were overlapping somehow. So far since the reinstall the wireless is working great. I will post in a day or two on how its working.
Thanks for the reply. Great implementation of mate gapan.

Re: pro/wireless 2200BG dropping out every 2 to 20 minutes.
Well bad news on the wireless connection. I started the wireless today and it was fine for a couple of minutes then it dropped. I tried to reconnect I got a bad password error. But if I hover the mouse pointer over the connection it says I am connected at 70%. I try to reconnect several times with mixed results. If it does connect it only lasts for a minute or two.
I am about thirty feet from the router. While using windows my signal strength is excellent and very rarely drops on me. How do I check for DNS problems I know nothing about it
Thank Kelean.

Re: pro/wireless 2200BG dropping out every 2 to 20 minutes.
I was having similar problems with my Ratpoison 13.37 install (using wicd) but I attributed them to our bad internet connection and maybe someone having moved the transmitting aerial a critical few millimetres from its optimum position. But maybe a problem has crept in to Salix's wireless networking somehow, after some update or other. Maybe the wired connection was also affected, but I'm unsure as I use it infrequently at home.
Just thought it worth a mention. I'm several thousand kilometres from home just now, so I can't test anything out unfortunately.

Re: pro/wireless 2200BG dropping out every 2 to 20 minutes.
Question (I run a networking/I.T. firm and have to troubleshoot networking problems a lot, so forgive me if this seems simple, or is something you've already tried. I'm just trying to get a feel for the problem)
1. Have you tried another wifi card in it?
2. Are any other computers on the network having problems?
3. You mention writing this from Windows - is it on the same computer/wifi card (dualboot)? Or is Windows on a different machine entirely?
4. If Windows is a different machine entirely, are you using the SAME 2200BG card on both computers, or are you simply using identical 2200BG cards on each machine? (I.E. One might be bad).
5. Are you using native drivers, or NDISWrapper? (Forgive me - being new to Salix myself, I'm not sure which cards it supports natively vs. using Windows drivers). If you ARE using NDIS, have you tried a different driver (maybe the NT version instead of the XP version?)
Basically, I'm just trying to run standard "process of elimination" so to help isolate the problem. Lemme know what you find out. = )

1. I have not tried another wifi card as I do not have another one. I will try to borrow one.
2. My son has the same laptop and same hardware. Windows only and has no problems with wifi.
3. Yes I am dual booting Salix and XP. No problem with wifi running XP.
5.The drivers are built into the kernel. I am not sure if I could ndiswrapper. I have not thought about that option.
Re: pro/wireless 2200BG dropping out every 2 to 20 minutes.
You're saying that you have other devices in the same network. Could it be that one (or more) of the other devices are set to use the same IP address as the one in that laptop? That could justify the network dropping out.
Re: pro/wireless 2200BG dropping out every 2 to 20 minutes.
Gapan I am not sure. It does not matter if if my sons laptop is running or not. Next time he is home I will check it out.
Last night I ran into another oddity. When I tried to connect and reconnect I would get a bad password error and then it would not connect.

Re: pro/wireless 2200BG dropping out every 2 to 20 minutes.
I just tried a ralink rt2500 wifi card and have the same results. I then tried the ralink card while running linux mint lmde liveusb. I have the same results. It connects for a minute then disconnects. This is getting very frustrating.
