two problems that i have

1.I can't print to my printer that i have (Samsung ML 1640). The OS that i use is SALIX 13.37.
2.When i use Thunderbird, i can't be connected to internet,I mean that if i have an e-mail that has links, the system asks me to choose an application...
Please help me...i am not a specialist

For your printer, you probably need splix (free drivers for samsung printers)
Install it using Gslapt.

For Thunderbird, you could tell it to use /usr/bin/firefox (or whatever web browser you prefer)

At this point you need to provide some more details about what edition of Salix you're running, what you're trying to do, what specific errors you get, what you have searched in your favourite search engine, what steps you have taken to try to fix the problems.

For example, you might try to start with any errors you get from CUPS when you try to install your printer.

First of all: I have a HP laptop of about 5-6 years old. The salix OS i use and i' m happy about that, is Salix 13.37, with 4.6.1 xfce. I'm new in the club of SALIX, as i have about 4-5 months that i use it.Till now i didn't have to print something to my printer, a samsung ML 1640. A few days ago i was forced to print a file that concerned my university, and i realized after plunging in the cables of the printer, that there wasn't any sing of recognition of it. I tried following the options that exist(manage printing etc) with no result. I connected to the CUPS e-page and the only thing i saw is that there are drivers for only one type of samsung printers(type ML 1220, or something like that). I only want to be able to print to the printer above, pdf files, document files and things like that. I don't have a LAN and i use the laptop as a home pc.In the near past i used Linux Mint 13 OS and before that ubuntu 12.04 and i didn't have similar problems.As for the Thunderbird, there's no more than i have mentioned to the previous post. I tried to settle it from the option ''preferences'' but there wasn't any option. The problem remains. When an e-mail, i get, has a link and i press the mouse on it, the program asks me which application to choose to open it.I don't have that problem when i use the Claws E-mail.

I really can't be much more help as I don't even have a Samsung printer, but DuckDuckGo gives this page as the second result when I search for samsung ml1640 linux. That page suggests that the printer will work using the splix drivers, which was what I found when I searched for samsung in Gslapt.
Have you tried installing the printer in CUPS after you installed splix?

As to Thunderbird, if there's no problem when using Claws, why not use that, it is the Salix default?
On my system, Thunderbird asks me to select a program to open particular types of file. I suggested you could use /usr/bin/firefox
You can tick the box to have Thunderbird remember your setting, or you can select it each time.
If you want to change it using the preferences interface, it's under attachments.

Right now i' m in the happy situation to say that the problem with printing ,that i had till now, finally solved...The system recognizes my printer with it's name and i can print whatever i want.
