Here's my question: When I connect a second monitor to my ratpison laptop, the first screen is extended, with the new monitor to the right, so ""one long desktop" So when the mouse arrow passes the right edge of monitor one, it appears on monitor two. I used Arandr to set it up. If I want one program to run in each of my monitors, how do I do it? I tried the ratpoison command to switch to the next screen, but got the error message that I did not have a second monitor.
I was hoping to be able to switch between screens like I do with workspaces, with one workspace in each of the monitors.
Hope I make myself clear, and that someone could help me along...
ratpoison 13.37 and dual screen
Re: ratpoison 13.37 and dual screen
I dont know the proper way to do this but as a workaround, you could split one frame into two horizontal tiles and adjust the width till the division corresponds to that between your two physical screens.
Re: ratpoison 13.37 and dual screen
Thank you!
I'm going to give that a shot! As you said, that may be a workaround that actually works. I'll post the results.

Re: ratpoison 13.37 and dual screen
I tried today, but it didn't work yet. I tried with xrandr instead of arandr. Got the second monitor to the right of laptop screen. The mouse arrow can move to the new monitor, but the frames didn't. Looked on the xorg.conf, and found an article on the web that said I need to put a virtualscreen in there. I haven't done that yet. Tried first to change the laptop resolution to match that of the second monitor, but THEN the laptop screen became black, and the other one started working
. After a bit of more tinkering, I got the screens back to mirror mode, but with wrong resolution on the laptop screen. That was fixed when I restarted the laptop. So - I'm not there yet.

Re: ratpoison 13.37 and dual screen
Try restarting ratpoison after you add the extra monitor. Don't exit ratpoison and don't exit X. Just restart it, there should be an entry somewhere in the ratmenu.
