I have wiped the harddisc from an older HP notebook (Compaq 6715s) and removed Vista.
So I installed Salix 14.0.1 via CD.
After some tweaking (keyboard and country settings were wrong from the beginning) all runs fine, but I cannot get WLAN to work.
The LAN/WLAN interface is managed by a broadcom chipset, together with bluetooth.
The LAN interface runs well from the start.
But I have not found a way to get WLAN working.
The broadcom chipset is 4311 a/b/g so the solution with either b43 firmware, as described in the wiki, should work or even the one offered via slackware.org.
However, none does.
The problem is, I cannot get the WLAN adapter activated.
When activated, a blue LED comes up. Not with all my trials. It just blinks up (need fast eyes) when booting and then never again.
Useless to say it did work under Windows.
Further the b43 firmware way as described in the wiki worked so far, but I am not sure whether all was installed correctly.
And, when I try to use a new firmware or the broadcom proprietary driver I receive installation errors.
How can I get this crap to work?
I would like to make a plan, step by step, to remove all which could cause a problem and the little by little install and check and modify
until it runs.
The wiki article is fine but as said did not work...

Thanks in advance!
