some preliminary questions

Post by fizzy-logic »

Hi to all,
I would like to install Salix 14.0.1 and have a few questions regarding these issues before install :

1) I'll need drivers for the Nvidia card GT 240. Any problems here ?
2) For a wifi connection I use a Asus N-13 usb adapter with a realtek chipset. The needed driver is RTL8192CU. Any issues here ?
3) Also need to have the application k9copy working ? The backlite version is acceptable, too !

Let me know...

No. If you want to install the binary drivers from nvidia, you should download the executable they provide and run it. You'll need to have the kernel-source package installed

Code: Select all

slapt-get -i kernel-source

Don't think so.

k9copy is available as a SlackBuild. You can use slapt-src/sourcery to build and install it.

k9copy installation

Post by fizzy-logic »

Hi to all,

After a hiatus of about 1 year I have returned.
Tried to install k9copy through Sourcery, however, when fetching http://downloads.sourceforge.net/k9copy ... rce.tar.gz FAILED
now What should be done ?

K9copy was totally fried and buggy last time I used it a couple yrs ago. What about HandBrake? It's in the repos. Works excellent for me (on a Linux Mint XFCE machine -- not sure about Salix). Good luck!

FWIW - Handbrake works in Salix. Did have to run it a couple of times if I remember correctly to get the right dependencies (had a few fails) but they are all available. It's late here and I would have to look it up. I think I actually wrote it down somewhere if it would help.

There is a Salix package available for HandBrake, via Gslapt /slapt-get so it should pull in all the needed dependencies.

Thanks for that clarification, didn't mean to confuse anyone

Really thought I had used a slackbuild (sourcery) to install handbrake when 14.1 xfce was still in beta; this possible or was it always in the Salix repo? Anyway it worked then and I hadn't checked the Salix repos since. Either way a lesson learned.

Yes, this could have happened when we were still in beta. All packages are built and then uploaded to the repos during that period and you might just have installed HandBrake before we uploaded our own package. Looking at the changelog, HandBrake was added on Feb 19 2014.
