[SOLVED] Update prompt appears when no updates are available

Post by tigerflag »

Lately the update icon keeps appearing in my the taskbar when no package updates are available. It pops up daily, even if I've just completed an update that same day. I can check for updates and it'll go away, but then it comes back again. Rebooting doesn't help.

I'm using these sources in Gslapt:

http://salix.enialis.net/x86_64/slackware-13.37/ - Priority "Official"
http://salix.enialis.net/x86_64/slackware-13.37/extra/ - Priority "Official"
http://salix.enialis.net/x86_64/13.37/ - Priority "Preferred"

Any idea what's going on?

Also, what happens if you "delete cached package files"?

Thanks!

Thank you. Sorry I couldn't get back to this sooner.

I changed my repository mirrors. Ran an update in Gslapt which seemed to go fine. Checked to mark all upgrades. It says none are available. Do you know if v.13.37 is being updated any more?

Yes it is (security upgrades) but it looks like nothing has been added since you last checked.

Salix versions are supported as long as the SLackware version on which they are based.

Thank you.

As long as I've got you here, can you tell me what happens if I delete cached package files in Gslapt? Is it advisable or not?

Deleting them will not do any harm (though it means they will need to be downloaded again if needed for some reason) but there is also no reason to that I can think of in normal use. Very occasionally, a file may end up in the cache that stops you getting the version you need from the repositories, meaning you need to run slapt-get --clean.

I'm no expert on the inner workings of slapt-get, but I think the idea is if you uninstall and reinstall something, the package file is still there. Also it means you can inspect it if you wish.
