I currently using the latest version of Salix OS(Xfce).
I used 3G usb modem(ZTE MF100) to connect to the internet but after usb dongle was inserted for a while it seemed Salix didn't recognized this device.
Salix seemed idle and didn't show Mobile Broadband Connection in network manager.
I think Salix may not contains usb mode_switch and usb mode_switch data packages.
Any suggestion is welcome.
Salix(Xfce) never detect my 3G usb modem
Re: Salix(Xfce) never detect my 3G usb modem
Just checking,
Which version of Salix are you using?
Are you using WICD or NetworkManager?
Have you tried sakis3g? (do try it, that's what it's for.)

Re: Salix(Xfce) never detect my 3G usb modem
You need to more specific. What do you mean latest? The latest stable is 14.0, the latest development is 14.1beta1.donedara wrote:I currently using the latest version of Salix OS(Xfce).
What were you expecting to happen? This is not windows and you don't get popups whenever you plug stuff in.donedara wrote:I used 3G usb modem(ZTE MF100) to connect to the internet but after usb dongle was inserted for a while it seemed Salix didn't recognized this device.
If by "network manager" you mean wicd, that's totally expected. Wicd doesn't support 3G mobile connections.donedara wrote:Salix seemed idle and didn't show Mobile Broadband Connection in network manager.
It certainly does.donedara wrote:I think Salix may not contains usb mode_switch and usb mode_switch data packages.
Follow aurlaent's suggestion: use sakis3g.donedara wrote:Any suggestion is welcome.
My general comment is that because things work in a certain way in a certain OS or a certain distribution, don't take it for granted that they work in exactly the same way in every OS or every distribution.
Re: Salix(Xfce) never detect my 3G usb modem
Hi
I installed NetworkManager, ModemManager, mobile-broadband-provider-info packages, from Slackware
but no MobileBroaband tab in NetworkManger applet.
It is Salix-x86_64-14.1RC1. In Slackware no such problems
Currently I don't know what dependencies to install to get MobileBroaband.
USB Modem is detected and converted, there are /dev/ttyUSB * devices.
Currently out of ideas.

The problem was that ModemManager fails to start.
So to solve this ,some additional packages needed to be installed:
network-manager-applet
libqmi-1.4.0-x86_64-1
libmbim-1.4.0-x86_64-1
And as root or sudouser,to run "nm-connection-editor"
Now is working. Im writing this from Salix-14.1
greetings

The normal solution for this is to use sakis-3g, as suggested above. It should work out of the box.
