Hi,
I have just installed Salix 14.1 Fluxbox edition, and installed ibus 1.5.5 and ibus-pinyin from Gslapt. I can see the ibus icon at the systray. I can change it to the pinyin (for Chinese characters) mode too. However, whenever I change the input to pinyin and type something, it either change back to the "no ibus input method" icon or that English characters appear instead. In other words, it is not working.
After spending a long time on it, I decided to manually install from slackbuild.org ibus 1.3.9 and sun-pinyin instead and it worked! I will still like to install ibus from Gslapt (i.e. Salix binary package) so that I will be able to get updates and I will not be getting unintended notifications about upgrading to ibus 1.5.5 which does not work.
Thanks!
Ibus problem on Salix 14.1 Fluxbox edition
Re: Ibus problem on Salix 14.1 Fluxbox edition
No idea about ibus, but since you made it work, you can always blacklist the ibus package(s) from upgrading, by adding them to the EXCLUDE list in your /etc/slapt-get/slapt-getrc (or you can do the same from the preferences window in gslapt).

Thanks gapan for the blacklisting info.
Hopefully my solution will be useful for whoever is having problems with ibus too.
