Hello,
I'm new to Salix (and Slackware based distros in general). I'm trying to install the drivers to a Brother DCP-J315W printer. When I try to install linux-brprinter-installer-2.0.0-1 (the unpacked file has no suffix) I'm lost ...
According to the instructions given by Brother:
$ sudo bash linux-brprinter-installer-*.*.*-* Brother machine name
When I try I got the following respons in the terminal:
"Rpm or dpkg is required."
What should I do?

Re: Installing a file without suffix
The solution was too simple even for me
I couldn't imagine that I could use rpm in Salix.
I installed rpm and now the problem is solved.

Welcome to Salix
It's great that you managed to get your printer working. Tools such as that one often perform poorly, however, because as you rightly thought, the different package management systems are not compatible at all.
Do have a look at the Salix Startup Guide if you haven't already (link on homepage); and if you would like, introduce yourself on the "Salix Pub" subforum.
Please don't hesitate to come to the forum with any queries. This is a friendly place with a lot of helpful people.
