Mate desktop items have disappeared

Post by rsal »

I have Salix-Mate in 2 desktops and update them regularly. Since yesterday, I have found (probably after update) that the desktop items have disappeared on both of them (even though items are there in ~/desktop folder). Also right-click on does not work so I cannot change the desktop picture. How can I correct this and bring these icons back?

Is there a "mateconf-editor"? If so then go to apps/caja/desktop and check the icons you want to appear on the desktop.

Been a while since I played with MATE but that is how I did it before on another distro.

There was no update that would cause this.

Do you have any NFS mounts? If you do, is the server accessible?

There is no mateconf-editor but there is dconf-editor where I checked org.mate.caja.desktop, where computer-icon-visible, home-icon-visible, trash-icon-visible and volumes-visible are already checked.

Regarding NFS and server, I am purely a desktop user and do not know about NFS and server use of linux. I have not deliberately tried to change any of these setting. Please let me know how to check for these. (There are NTFS partitions on these computers which I can easily access without any problems).
