What would you want in Salix?

Post by reedych »

For me Salix is the better version of Slackware with deps and bigger repos. How you see the Salix in future? What does it need to be as popular as debian or rhel?

It is amazing what Salix and Slackware accomplish with the size of the dev. team. I suppose that is one of the benefits of not changing upstream programs, makes them apart of the team so to speak.

Would be nice to see someone offer computers with Salix preinstalled similar to system76 with Ubuntu. One day. :D

While being a bit short on free time lately, I'd certanly like to help.
I'm good with GTK theming, Python ( GTK stuff in particular ), Bash and debugging things in general.
Some of the stuff I've been doing can be found @https://gitlab.com/users/Cofi/projects.

Now, excuse me if missing the obvious but, besides a couple of issues spotted over @gapan's GitHub, I haven't been able to find any info as to where and with what is help particularly needed... :?: :)

I think Salix needs a better installation manager. If it will be, Salix would be more popular.

Well, SLI is pure awesomeness in it's simplicity ( including tehnical side ).
Not to mention the fact that it does it's job every time, without any fuss ( I atleast never had any issues with it ).

However I do agree with you on the point of user-friendliness.
IMO, just rearranging the current UI into a slightly more intuitive, logical or "flowing" layout would do wonders. :)

Will do, thanks for the pointer! :)

EDIT:

Something is not right with the XMPP server ( IRC works ). Neither Gajim nor Pidgin can connect ( server not found ).
Tried to ping it:
- meticul.eu --> Responds
- chat.meticul.eu --> No response
:?

It's working for me, salix@chat.meticul.eu; but very quiet just now.

You can use either, and traffic is normally echoed from one room to the other, though that doesn't seem to be working just now. I personally prefer XMPP.
