I'll give you thenktor's recommendations

1) i'd only buy laptops below 2 kg;
2) 12-14";
3) 2-4 gb ram;
4) cpu does not matter to me;
5) minimum 5 h real battery lifetime;

thenktor also added: "if the manufacturer states 8 h battery it's in real life 5 h only"
I wondered about the display monitor: 12 - 14 (SMALL)
thenktor replied: "a laptop is mobile"

but really, I'm not the right one that can recommend for anyone about buying computer machine...

hope that helps.

If netbook prefered, check budget and buy whatever Asus (or Samsung).
If laptop prefered, check budget and go to the dell site, google some coupon code.

Done.

(is that enough for a flamewar?)
Nuts, by definition limited.

Oh, I think it is not that easy going ... You should check for good gpu (some Intel chips are bad for tux) and cpu speed (single / dual core).
