Tried to install k3b3-1.0.5 Downloaded and installed k3b3-1.0.5 and required packages kdelibs3-3.5.10 + qt3 from slackware/extra/kde3-compat, However, k3b failed to run. Any idea why?

How did you install k3b3 exactly? It isn't available through our repositories, so you must have gotten it somewhere else. And have you tried launching it from the command line and see what errors come up?

Gapan, it's part of the official Slackware extra repo, so it should be available via slapt-get, too.
h2t, did you install everything from the extra/kde3-compat dir? And please post the command line errors.

No, it isn't available through slapt-get. I have removed it from being available because it needs a library that is included only in aaa_elflibs.

When I tried to launch k3b from the command line, this is the error returns: "k3b: error while loading shared libraries: libjpeg.so.62: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".
I like k3b3 since I am used to it and it appears to be less buggy than k3b4. k3b3 and its support packages (qt3 and kdelibs3 -at least from my understanding from reading the Absolute Linux forum) require less hard drive space than k3b4. I just thought I would give it a try in Salix. Would like it much if it works in Salix. The packages are downloaded from Slackware/extra/kde3-compat.
P.S.
Thank you for the hint in gapan and Salix Wizard's replies. I created a symlink of the missing library libjpeg.so.62 to libjpeg.so.8.0.1 and k3b3 now can be launched. Will try to burn a disc with it later.

Hehe... which is libjpeg as usual

I still don't get the point why this file was not removed from that package...

I'm guessing the only reason is because Pat is too bored/busy to rebuild software that requires it with the new libjpeg. That software is in slackware /extra though, so they are not really supposed to be supported as everything else.

And I guess we've found the first bug ever in a Slackware release

I don't think they see it as a bug. They certainly know about it. But the fact that the old version of the library is unexplainably in aaa_elflibs makes it work for them.
