the only distro that I was able to get audacity to work on was mint and I don't like Mint, slower than Windoze.
If anybody can give me some pointers, I would appreciate it. Thanks, I don't get on the forum much but I will check back daily.

I was able to get audacity to work very well. simply download pulse audio and install, then download alsa plugins and extract to /usr/share/alsa worked for me

Audacity has always worked for me in salix.
To record live output from your soundcard you have to have the "mix" switch checked, either though the xfce mixer or the alsa mixer.
Esound is loaded by default in salix which can handle multiple outputs(which I use rather than pulse), you can start it by the command "esd".
Idk if that's any help.

Multiple outputs already are handled by Alsa (dmix).
