I have reinstalled the openoffice package and logged out and in again ...

Yeah. With default icon theme, it works.

While we're on it. distcc monitor should get an icon, too. 
Oh and I recommend running this:
I know (g)paco is among them. 
I think it's enough if that's fixed with the next build/version of the affected package. Not really critical.

A quick fix will be to symlink all missing icons to the default theme

Check if it helps to add hicolor to the "Inherits=" line in /usr/share/icons/$THEMENAME/index.theme.

Why are the OO icons only in gnome-brave? Doesn't the OO package provide icons itself?
