It works for me. To make sure, issue the command

pwd

before typing the slapt-get command to make sure you are in /var/log/packages.

That doesn't work for me either, though it could no dout be made to with a bit of command-line wizardry. But do you actually need to remove xfce? Unless you are very short of space, it will do no harm.

I like it clean ... Any way, the pointer of Didier was just: you have to be in /var/log /packages ...

isn't it possible to build Salix mate on Salix base (cli, without graphical environment)? so first base system, then mate plus login manager (lightdm?) to get also X.org (as dependency).

I think it is; but is there a minimal salix installer? I'd like to disagree on lightdm though ...

well, isn't called core?

Core: Only the minimum essentials for a console system to start are included. A graphical environment is not provided. This is ideal if you are an experienced user and want to customize your installation for any specific purpose, such as a web server, file server etc.

and what is wrong in lightdm (ok. there is no lightdm package in salix repo. gdm should be installed instead)? I used to built mete on Debian testing (years ago when trere was no mate in Debian repos). but maybe problems are not analogous?
