The plot thickens. I found that printing also works with gnome-vfs installed, but with removing libgnome or libgnomeui...

It also works if I remove libbonobo and/or libbonoboui.

Is libbonobo part of Salix stock installation? I don't have it.
Anyway gigolo and stuff works perfectly also without gnome-vfs. I think becouse we have gvfs and, according with the gnome-vfs package description:
It has mostly been replaced by gvfs now, but some old applications that haven't been updated still require it.
So, the next question is: which package REALLY require gnome-vfs?
None that i use i think... ;-)

No it isn't.

They are supposed to do the same job, but they are not the same thing. You can't just replace one with the other.

I already gave you the list. But I think the real problem lies elsewhere, not in gnome-vfs.

I red somewhere in the past that the Slackware64 Firefox package is compiled from source, while the 32 bit one is just a repackage of the mozilla precompiled tarball. Could it be the reason why I don't suffer the problem on my stock Slackware64 install? Do u have a stock Slackware 32 bit to check it?
Plus: too few messages about this problem on linuxquestions... I think not many slackware users are affected...

No, I have the problem in both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

Actually, removing any of the following packages seems to fix it.

Code: Select all

gnome-vfs
libgnome
libgnomeui
libbonobo
libbonoboui
GConf
ORBit2
What's even weirder is that going back to firefox 3.6.3, which worked fine before, also crashes!

Just did a fresh salix installation in basic mode. Firefox 3.6.3 also crashes as soon as I install libgnomeui. Everything else seems to not affect it.

Is libgnomeui included in full installation? If so, then it's more probable that the culprit is one of the latest slackware upgrades (imlib or cups or ghostscript) because I'm almost sure then last week everything worked just fine...
